NEW SCYTHIA
Experimental Archeology and Lifestyle Reconstruction. Living in the early Iron Age. Browse our ITEMSWandering Soul
Soul sparks that faded away thousands of years ago
Why do you revive in me?
Causing often severe upheavals in my weary soul
Orphaned since childhood
Like a huge burial mound raised on the steppe
Forgotten by all with the disappearance of the giant wooden memorial
Rotten away by the eternal cycle of seasons.
Bloody battles fought and mourned thousands of years ago
Why do you torture my feverish mind again?
Why do I have to see the reddish light of the setting sun
Merge with the sea of clotting blood?
Then the cawing of crows and the screaming of scavenger birds
Suppress the moaning of the half-dead still clinging to life killing all their hope.
Then the whole sight is shrouded in a slowly floating cloud of fog.
Sometimes a faint movement emerges
But it is stifled by cold steel
And a strange figure wanders up and down
Its hood casting a shadow on his face …
Then everything is overwhelmed by blood-curdling stillness and calmness…
And sometimes hundreds of years go by unnoticed this way.

My Story
I was six when I created my first Stone-Age tools from pebbles. In my youth realized this is something that just came through me and I fell in love with making things with my own bare hands.
Ancient buildings from various ages, tools, weapons, everyday items, kitchen equipment, tools for animals – I was interested in how to make them and use them in authentic ways. Then I started to recreate historical objects and live like our ancestors did. I learnt how to handle and look after animals, the plants and the land. Along with the nomadic culture, Horseback archery became my passion and I lived in a yurt for years. My latest love for the past 15 years is for Blacksmithing and Bronze casting – all in the form how they were done in the early Iron Age. I built and I live in an early Iron Age round shaped house.
I started doing Experimental Archeology in 1982. Then it transformed to Lifestyle Reconstruction, which became my life, since I live in these buildings from 1997 and I love it. I won’t be able to live differently.
9 acres, 26 Unique Buildings
In the land of New Scythia you will find fascinating buildings from different ages that I have recreated to the very last details of the originals as much as it was possible. The best thing? Building them I learnt how they must been built, because the buildings in New Scythia are fully functional buildings according to their original age.
New Scythia can be found in the heart of Hungary, close to Lake Balaton on an ancient land. On a land that was the center and the living place of the pre-Scythian Cimmerian nobility ruling the Illyrian-Pannonian people that stretched out to the south of Lake Balaton between the Adriatic sea and the Pindus in B.C. VIII-VI. The area holds many evidence of their existence, thousands of ceramics, remainder of old living buildings, and remainder of a ground Fort with walls that was the center of their Kingdom.
Right in the heart of New Scythia a complete and undisturbed Alan chieftain burial place from the V. century was found and excavated in the Summer of 1967. This burial place is held as a sacred place in New Scythia and it is a place for ceremonial and cultural gatherings and sharing of ancient stories around campfire in the evenings.
The beautiful treasures of the burial place can be seen at Museum of Szekszard.
FRIENDS
I have friends and visitors from all around the world. What brings them to New Scythia is the love for history, to try and learn the old ways of living and immerse themselves in activities our ancestors did or we believe they did. We try out an experiment with many things, recreating the atmosphere of the old times, keeping values of our ancestors, like strong friendship, feel what our forefathers might have felt and share these experiences with each other.
EARLY IRON AGE
I live in an Early Iron Age circle-shape house that we built it ourselves. Then we made sure the interior would look the same. We built the internal walls with the same technique as well as we decorated with patterns from that age. Then the furniture, tools, weapons, shield, all bits and pieces that would reflect this age. Sometimes, I cannot resist and I also include items from Xth century, that other era that I love. Every year we have get-togethers, youth camps and archery events, so I can share this experience with whoever is interested.
